- Alpha Phi was founded in 1872 by 10 of the first 20 women admitted
into Syracuse University
- the "Phi" in Alpha Phi is pronounced "fee" not "fie"
- our symbol is the ivy leaf
- Alpha Phi's flowers are the lily-of-the-valley and forget-me-not
- our colours are silver and bordeaux
- our mascot is the "Phi Bear"
- Alpha Phi supports cardiac care for women
- our public motto is "Union Hand-in-Hand"
- Alpha Phi is the third largest and fourth oldest women's sorority
in North America
- with the charter of Xi chapter at the University of Toronto in 1906,
Alpha Phi became the first international sorority
- in 1902, Alpha called the first inter-sorority meeting that resulted
in the organization now known as the National Panhellenic Conference,
the first intergroup organization on university campuses
- three of our founders were listed in Who's Who in America
- our first alumna initiate, Frances E. Willard, was the first woman
to be honoured by the U.S. Congress by having a statue of her placed
in Statuary Hall in the rotunda at Washington D.C. in 1905
